Welcome to the School of Petroleum Studies.

The School of Petroleum Studies was incorporated in 2007 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Petroleum Institute of East Africa (PIEA) with the primary purpose of capacity building for the industry.

The institution also helps the industry association which is the Petroleum Institute of East Africa to meet its core mandate of professionalizing the industry. This is done by offering first class specialized training with a curriculum focused on downstream,mid stream and upstream in the oil and gas sectors.

The establishment of the school is a reflection of the essence of the PIEA Mission Statement:ensuring that stakeholders of the oil and gas industry and their human resources are well trained and have the skills to carry out their work obligations.

To provide a forum for expertise and excellence in the oil industry in the East African region with the aim of promoting professionalism and free enterprise in the petroleum business supported by the highest business operating standards , and adherence to Environment, Health and Safety ideals.

Course structure and certification

Courses

We offer a comprehensive range of training and competency solutions to the oil & gas industry, providing learners with short certificate courses that cover virtually every technical discipline, learning style and level of competency in sectors as varied as exploration and production, refining and petrochemicals, the energy transition, economics and energy management.

The oil and gas industry relies on 'on-the-job' training programs, supplemented by in-house and external short courses, to keep pace with the continuing introduction of new and advanced technology. Our short certificate courses can be provided both as open courses and In-house.

Open Courses
SPS sets up training for multiple groups of organizations to come together integrate, network and sharing of ideas.
Are offered:
•    Twice a month (beginning ad last week of the month)
•    Take between 3-5 days
•    Cover different subject matters across upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the industry.

In-house Training
We bring courses and experts to your location
In-house courses are private, on-site training taught wherever, whenever and however you'd like. By bringing our expertise to any location of your choosing, you save time and money, while also giving yourself and your employees a training experience that is custom-made to fit your company.
Seminars and Workshops
•    Are 1 – 2 days long.
•    Are based on topical oil industry matters
•    Are concurrent with your daily workflow.

Partnership training Programs

The School of Petroleum Studies together with Morendat Institute of Oil & Gas (MIOG) provide a collaborative program that is competency-based in Oil & Gas Pipelines Management, Operations and Maintenance to develop human resource capacity for Kenya and the region.

The curricula used were developed by experts in line with the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) and is so far the only competency-based curricula approved by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) in Kenya.
